Overview
Prevention Rx brings nutrition, physical activity, and quitting
tobacco use into patient care by establishing healthcare prevention
systems. NC Prevention Partners offers Prevention Rx workshops
throughout North Carolina to healthcare professionals working in physicians’
offices, hospitals, health departments, and community health centers.
Participants gain valuable resources featuring brief screening and
counseling tools entitled the Starting
the Conversation series and an on-line referral database
called the NC Good
Health Directory. Additional guidance is provided for how
to modify patient history forms, document prevention encounters, file
for reimbursement, and report progress.

Simple Tools for Health Organizations and
Health Professionals
In partnership with the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease
Prevention, NC Prevention Partners has developed the Starting
the Conversation series on nutrition, physical activity,
and quitting tobacco to help healthcare professionals and consumers
start the conversation about preventive behaviors and to establish
referral systems for more intensive counseling as needed. English
and Spanish versions are available, as well as a tobacco tool specifically
for Native Americans. These tools can be obtained by attending one
of the Prevention Rx workshops.
NC Good Health Directory
A comprehensive NC referral directory of local cessation programs
and providers can be accessed at www.ncgoodhealthdirectory.com.
This resource assists healthcare professionals and the general population
in locating services, vendors, and resources throughout the state
that can help those ready to quit tobacco use. The NC Good Health
Directory is a searchable database organized by county, city,
and zip code.
Target Audience
Office and clinic managers, physicians, physician assistants, nurses,
health educators, health promoters, dietitians, dentists, dental hygienists,
pharmacists, and medical record personnel are encouraged to attend.
Continuing Education Credit
Certificates of completion reflecting 4 contact hours of continuing
education will be awarded at the completion of each workshop at no
additional fee.
